Sharpcuts IV: A New Hope

two col ruler

Any movie-goer with enough sense knows that for any series to extend beyond 3 chapters (aka A Trilogy) is a daring and treacherous leap and is not for the faint of heart.

Many have attempted. Few have survived. A moment of silence for those who have foolishly perished trying: Batman, American Pie, Saw, The Karate Kid, Superman, Twilight (debatable, but with 0 for 2, it’s the safest bet in the world). Even Spidey apparently didn’t have the moxie to step up to the challenge, opting instead to play Eternal Sunshine and repeat itself. Wuss.

To pull off three straight installmentsĀ  takes endurance, a constant flow of creativity, and an unhealthy supply of caffeine. To go for that fourth round can seem like pure, unadulterated insanity. You must be prepared to deliver to the masses something fresh, something new and something that will be just as full of awesome as what they’ve filled up on the first three runs.

Monty Python was crazy enough to say it, and now so are we…

“And now for something completely different!”
